The festival started in 1983 when there were less than 30 wineries in Oregon. Founders, Josef & Lilli who emigrated from Germany, wanted to pass on a little bit of the harvest spirit to the burgeoning Oregon wine industry. Since running a vineyard and winery is a lot of hard work, they believed it was important to start the busy crush season off with a lighthearted approach. A fun harvest festival with lively music, local foods and of course, stomping grapes in a casual European atmosphere!
Before there were micro brews and Starbucks, there was the St Josef’s Grapestomping Festival!
When is the event?
Saturday, Sept 26th and Sunday September 27th. Open Noon – 5pm. Rain or Shine

Advance ticket and group packages will be available on September 1st!
Can we stomp the grapes?
Yes! We’re always looking for volunteers to help us stomp!
This year you can even reserve a spot to with our VIP Grapestomping Packages. Which includes admission for Two, 2 souvenir glasses, wine tasting or a glass of wine or beer for each. Plus a reserved Grapestomping time for two along with tour with the winemaker and three bottles of wine to take home to enjoy (one red, one white, one sparkling from our current releases).
We will also be looking for more Grapestomping volunteers throughout the day. (stompers need to be 21+) And everyone will be able to get a picture of their feet in the grapes.
Do we need to make a reservation to attend the event?
No- but advance tickets will save you 20%. Advance tickets include a souvenir glass and wine tasting (or glass of wine or beer). Tickets at the door will be $15 and include a souvenir glass.
Is there food?
Yes- many options for you to enjoy!

> And enjoy a special lunch of Schweine-hocksen for two! Made by our friends at Flying Barracuda BBQ this delicately braised pork shank feeds two and includes traditional side dishes. It feeds two- it’s a real German beer/wine garden treat!

If you’re food persnickety you can have lunch before the event at several local places that serve our wines- including Filberts Farmhouse, Markum Inn , Colony Pub & Cutsforth Thriftway.
Do you have bottles of wine to enjoy?
Yes- we have will have wines available by the glass and bottle, including our German Style Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Sparkling Riesling and Spate Burgunder!
Along with our other estate grown wines, plus beer, water and non-alcoholic beverages.
Will we be able to taste wines?
Yes, we will have a special area set up to taste some of our favorite wines. There is an additional tasting fee for the wine flight.
Are wines available for purchase to take home?
Yes- our gift shop will be open and there will be special discounts on wines to go.
Can we bring a food or picnic?
No outside food this weekend since this is a special event. You’re welcome to come back another time when we don’t have an event to enjoy a picnic at the pond. No outside beverages allowed at any time. We will have water stations to fill up your empty water bottles.
Are children welcome?
Yes- Please keep in mind it is a winery and festival. Children need to be attended at all times. No cover charge for minors.
What about dogs? We love dogs, but they NOT ALLOWED at the festival. Bring your pooch another time.
Is there parking?
Yes, we have FREE parking areas situated on both sides of our property. We do ask that you CARPOOL to the event so that you can have a designated driver and we can have ample parking for all. It is NOT a good weekend for a car rally event since the parking is limited.
Is there camper/trailer/RV parking? Sorry, no.
What time do the gates open?
The winery is open from 12pm to 5pm. We aren’t open before 12pm. Gates will open @ 11:45. Last pour is 4:45 each day.
Can we pick grapes?
No. Please respect our farm. Most of our acreage has been certified organic and we can’t risk the introduction of other things into the vineyards.
Do we need to wear lederhosen? If you got it- flaunt it!
What happens if it rains?
We have tents, and we will get wet- but the show will go on. We’re Oregonians after all.
What if we can’t attend after we’ve purchased advance tickets?
Come visit St Josef’s during our normal hours before Christmas and you will receive your souvenir wine glass and glass of wine.
