Before there were micro brews and Starbucks, there was the St Josef’s Grapestomping Festival! 

Rain or Shine– Saturday, Sept 20  and Sunday September 21 2025.   Open Noon – 5pm.

In addition to Grapestomping held throughout the day, we will have current wine vintages and special reserve wines available by the glass & bottle, plus tastings, beers and non-alcoholic beverages.  Local foods including our special German sausages, German Style Pretzels, and other snacks too!

Are we really stomping grapes? Yes!- We’re stomping grapes all throughout the day.  Some stompings are advance reservations, some are show up with a good attitude, put your name in the hat and hopefully get chosen!

Come on over!  Open Sunday 12-5.  $15 at the door includes souvenir glass and $5 credit towards wine to take home!

 

The St Josef’s Grapestomping Festival started in 1983 when there were less than 30 wineries in Oregon. Proprietors, Josef & Lilli who emigrated from Germany, wanted to pass on a little bit of the harvest spirit to the burgeoning Oregon wine industry. Since running a vineyard and winery is a lot of hard work, they believed it was important to start the busy crush season off with a lighthearted approach. It all began with lively music, local foods and of course, stomping grapes in a barrel.  It has grown to stomping next to a 1200 gallon Oak barrel that holds 3,000 bottles of wine, great music & locally made foods in a casual, relaxed European atmosphere.  Grapestomping FAQ 2025

Can we stomp the grapes?
Yes! This year you can even reserve a spot to have a team of four make an advance reservation to stomp grapes- (two stompers, one holder/spotter and one container tipper).  We will also be looking for more Grapestomping volunteers throughout the day. (stompers need to be 21+) And everyone will be able to get a picture of their feet in the grapes.

Includes Entry for Two-
plus two souvenir St Josef’s wine glasses and a $20 credit towards wine!  $10 for the event day and $10 on bottles of wine to go.

Saturday Advance ticket Specials are available until 5pm on Friday Sept 19th. 

Sunday Advance tickets available until 5pm Saturday 9/20

VIP Stomping Team Experience Package- $120 for Four People
Includes entry for FOUR- FOUR souvenir St Josef’s wine glasses and a wine credit for each & reserved Grapestomping time! (The team consists of two stompers, one holder/spotter and one container tipper.)  Plus, Tour of the winery with the Wine-Maker- along with three bottles of wine to take home- one each of Red, White & Sparkling Wines of your choice of our current releases. VIP Stomp Team tickets are available until 5pm on Friday Sept 18^th or they are sold out.

 

Day of Event ticket is $15 and include souvenir glass.  Show up at the gate & enjoy the day!

When is the event?

Is there food?
Yes- many options for you to enjoy!

> And enjoy a special lunch of Schweine-hocksen for two!  Made by our friends at Flying Barracuda BBQ this delicately braised pork shank feeds two and includes traditional side dishes.  $30 feeds two- Order in advance!
> German Style Crepes & Treats from Ruby’s
> other snacks including local hazelnuts and chocolates
If you’re food persnickety you can have lunch before the event at several local places that serve our wines- including Filberts Farmhouse, Markum Inn & Cutsforth Thriftway.  

Do you have bottles of wine to enjoy?
Yes- we have will have wines available by the glass and bottle, including our German Style Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Sparkling Riesling and Spate Burgunder!
Along with our other estate grown wines, plus beer, water and non-alcoholic beverages.

 

Can we stomp the grapes?
Yes! Do we need to make a reservation to attend the event?
No- but advance tickets will save you a few $$ and guarantee your entry. You can also make an advance reservation to stomp grapes- it is a reservation for four during one of our stomping contest windows.

Will we be able to taste wines?
Yes, we will have a special area set up to taste some of our favorite wines.  There is an additional tasting fee for the wine flight.

Are wines available for purchase to take home?
Yes- our gift shop will be open and there will be special discounts on wines to go.

Can we bring a food or picnic?
No outside food this weekend since this is a special event.  You’re welcome to come back another time when we don’t have an event to enjoy a picnic at the pond. No outside beverages allowed at any time. We will have water stations to fill up your empty water bottles.

Are children welcome?
Yes- Please keep in mind it is a winery and festival. Children need to be attended at all times.  No cover charge for minors.

What about dogs?  We love dogs, but they NOT ALLOWED at the festival. Bring your pooch another time.

Is there parking?
Yes, we have FREE parking areas situated on both sides of our property.  We do ask that you CARPOOL to the event so that you can have a designated driver and we can have ample parking for all.  It is NOT a good weekend for a car rally event since the parking is limited.

Is there camper/trailer/RV parking?
Sorry, no.

What time do the gates open?
The winery is open from 12pm to 5pm.  We aren’t open before 12pm.  Gates will open @ 11:45. Last pour is 4:45 each day.

Can we pick grapes?
No.  Please respect our farm.  Most of our acreage has been certified organic and we can’t risk the introduction of other things into the vineyards.

What happens if it rains?
We have tents, and we will get wet- but the show will go on. We’re Oregonians after all.

What if we can’t attend after we’ve purchased advance tickets?
Come visit St Josef’s during our normal hours before Christmas and you will receive your souvenir wine glass and $5 wine credit
