One of Oregon’s Wine Pioneers is celebrating its 39th Anniversary! Before there were microbrews or artisan coffee in Oregon- there was St Josef’s Winery. St Josef’s Day celebrates the founding of St Josef’s Winery and the beginning of the season as spring buds appear in the vineyard. St Josef’s planted their first vineyards in 1978 and had their first (legal) vintage was in 1983; becoming one of the first 30 wineries in Oregon. Since then the Oregon wine industry has boomed becoming the fourth largest wine state with over 600 wineries.
Proprietors Josef & Lilli grew up in Europe and met in the German city of Chicago. Since founding the winery they have created a bit of European style hospitality. They believe it is important to start the growing season off with a lighthearted approach. St Josef’s Day Festival features new wine releases, lively music from Portland Gypsy Jazz Project and home-made Hungarian Goulash, along with other foods. New releases of estate grown wines including the highly regarded Lilli Sparkling Wines and Kitara Reserve Syrah will be available. Tours with the winemaker will occur several times during the day and your spot can be reserved in advance on the St Josef’s website.
